Meredith students are known for their ability to recognize opportunities for growth and then, through leadership and service, to become catalysts for change in the community. From the newly-built Meredith Habitat house to the highly-successful “Campaign for a Greener Meredith,” our students have a proud legacy of being agents of positive change. The 2009-10 campus theme “Catalysts for Change” will build on that history as, together, our campus explores what it means to be a catalyst for change.

The rapid rate of change in today’s world offers rich possibilities to those who are prepared to act. As an educational institution, Meredith can empower all of its students and other members of our community to see themselves as potential catalysts for change, and give them the tools they need to help make the positive future they envision a reality.

Here are some ways to participate in our campus theme:

• The Summer Reading Program kicks off our campus theme each year. This year’s selection is “Unbowed,” by Wangari Maathai. Nobel Peace Laureate Maathai will also deliver the 2009 Lillian Parker Wallace Lecture on October 1, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the McIver Amphitheater.
• The Presidential Lecture Series, which is free and open to the public, involves the larger Raleigh community and exposes people to new ways of thinking about critical issues.
